Weekly Outdoor Events December 17-December 23: Winter Solstice Celebration!

The Winter Solstice is this Friday, December 21^st, which marks the shortest day of the year. Celebrate winter and the days getting longer again by walking through the great outdoors with these events:

Before or after the solstice, celebrate with a walk around Walden Pond as part of the Winter Solstice Walk interpretive program. This walk, appropriate for all ages, runs from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Thursday, December 20^th, Saturday, December 22^nd, and Sunday, December 23^rd.

Get outside on the actual solstice, Friday, December 21^st, for the Winter Beach Solstice Celebration from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at South Cape Beach in Mashpee! Kick off the celebration with a 2-mile brisk walk appropriate for most ages and end the afternoon with delicious hot chocolate and exploring the season changes to the shore and wildlife.

For those of you closer to Boston, attend the Solstice Sunset Stroll in Quincy on Friday, December 21^st from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm. Take a 1.5 mile walk along the marshes of Black’s Creek and then watch the sunset on the shortest day of the year.
