Massachusetts farmers provide the Bay State with wholesome fresh produce during the growing season. Many farmers also participate in winter farmers' markets and open their land during the winter months to visitors looking for inexpensive, scenic and recreational getaways.
Our marketing assistant Melissa Guerrero checked out the Maple Corner Farm in Granville earlier this month and found 20 miles of marked groomed trails over varied terrain, a cozy fireplace area to warm up next to, as well as a snack bar with sumptuous local maple syrup products available.

This weekend, Russell’s Garden Center in Wayland will be holding their first winter farmer’s market on Saturday, January 16, 2010 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Click here for event information and a list of vendors. The Winter Farmers Market at Russell's Garden Center was a well planned and diverse market. I visited on opening day and was impressed with the thought and planning in creating this market. The support of MDAR in continuing to grow more winter farmers markets in MA is critical as the transition from outside to indoors often involves significant changes in regulation on a local level; which may still vary from town to town. I also visited the market in Natick, again well thought out. Full disclosure I run the Market in North Attleborough and was pleased to see that all 3 of these winter markets appear to be doing well, clearly the demand is there for high quality locally grown and produced foods. Winter markets are here to stay and it would be great if we could take a leadership role in setting the standard for the indoor winter farmer's markets. Thank You.
